SNR: modernizing a local radio station's identity without losing its audience

SNR brand identity

SNR is a widely listened-to local radio station in Burgundy. Its iconic logo had been part of the station's identity for years. Evolving it was a high-risk exercise: touching a familiar symbol without losing the attachment it had built.

An iconic but dated logo

I was brought on to create the entire visual identity of SNR and everything that comes with it. The full visual identity redesign, backed by an overall art direction, covered branding, graphic design and UX/UI design, to structure the station's image and all of its communication materials.

A local radio station lives on its closeness to its audience: the risk wasn't just aesthetic, it was relational. Losing instant recognition of the logo could have weakened a bond built over years of daily listening.

Full redesign, consistency restored

The work was built around a modular logotype and consistent graphic variations across every touchpoint, from on-air to social media. The goal: to strengthen brand recognition and impact with the audience, without starting from zero on what already made SNR strong.

On the digital side, the site was fully rebuilt on WordPress, mobile first and SEO-optimized, to meet current web usage patterns, very different from those in place when the original logo was created.

After years with our iconic logo, it was time for a fresh look. We brought in Florent for the logo, the identity and the website... and what a success!

Key takeaway

Modernizing an iconic logo works when you keep its spirit while updating its execution: the audience recognizes the brand, without feeling like they've lost their bearings.

The results

The result is a more modern, more legible visual identity, with a site fully rebuilt for current web usage. The station gained consistency across all its materials, while keeping the instant recognition built over years with its local audience.

Frequently asked questions

How do you modernize a logo without losing audience recognition?
By keeping the most identifiable elements (a shape, a color, a structure) and updating only their execution: proportions, finishes, variations. A gradual evolution rather than a total break.
Why redo a website when the logo is already changing?
Because a new logo poorly integrated into a dated site creates immediate inconsistency. A full redesign lets you align every touchpoint with the same updated version of the brand.
Does a local radio station really need an SEO-optimized site?
Yes, the site remains a key touchpoint for reaching an audience that discovers the station outside of classic FM listening, notably through local search and podcast replays.
